There is no single journal for the scientific literature on rotifers. However, every three years since 1976, rotiferologists from around the world have met to review the recent progress that has been made in our field. To date, seven such meetings have been held as International Rotifer Symposia and contributions from each symposium have been published (mostly as special issues of the journal Hydrobiologia). In between these meetings workers keep abreast of recent developments by subscribing to Rotifer News. This newsletter, which has been in existence since 1975, has rotated the editing, production and distribution responsibilities over the intervening years. The current editor is Dr. Russ Shiel (Environmental Biology, University of Adelaide, Adelaide, Australia.) The keys that we envision for the U.S. species are currently under development.
